During this extended battle, Captain Jag responded to Order 66 and shot Koon down. When Anakin and Obi-Wan went off to star in Revenge of the Sith, Plo Koon took over operations on Cato Neimoidia.

Was the battle just a ploy for Cato Neimoidia to discreetly leave the Republic, or am I missing something 6 6. Turns out this planet had pretty heavy defenses, and the battle raged on long enough for Gunray to escape with his plates. I was under the impression that Cato Neimoidia, home of the Trade Federation, was with the CIS. When the Republic learned of this, they sent a force including Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and Kit Fisto there to capture him- hoping that the CIS would be broken if they lost their least effective leader.
When General Grievous ordered the CIS leaders to retreat to the Outer Rim, Nute Gunray decided to stop off at Cato Neimoidia to collect his valuable collection of commemorative plates before the planet fell to the Republic. The Battle of Cato Neimoidia was initially a strike intended to capture Nute Gunray, but ended up being a long battle with heavy casualties. Jan Dodonna commissioned this painting of the battle.
